Edward Freytag holds a B.S. in Music ED from the University of TN Chattanooga and a M.M. in Jazz Percussion Performance from the Univiversity of TN Knoxville where he studied with Jerry Coker and Keith Brown. He has been Director of Bands at Cleveland HS and LaVergne HS in TN and is now Assoc. Director at Eagleville HS and Whitworth MS. He has taught at Lee University, Cumberland University, and University of TN Chattanooga. He has many former students that are now professional musicians and/or professional music educators. He has performed with the Chattanooga and Knoxville Symphonies and served as percussion caption head for DCA Corps, Music City Legend. He is an in-demand adjudicator and clinician in both the jazz and percussion areas both nationally and internationally. He has presented clinics/masterclasses at the Kansas PAS Day of Percussion, the Montana AA Percussion Festival, the Rutherford County Percussion Festival, the North Alabama Percussion Festival, the North Georgia Percussion Festival, the Lee University Jazz Camp, the University of TN Knoxville, Austin Peay State University, the Sumner County Day of Drumset & Percussion, the MTSBOA (Middle TN School Band & Orchestra Association) Jazz Clinic, the West Kentucky Percussion Festival, the Oklahoma Band Directors Association Conference, and the State Music Educators Conferences for Maryland (MMEA), Texas (TxMEA), and Tennessee (TnMEA) to mention a few. Mr. Freytag has performed with notable artists such as Liberace, Aretha Franklin, Benny Goodman, Dizzy Gillespie, Randy Brecker, Eliane Elias, Bill Watrous, Dr. Hook, Steve Allen, Terry Gibbs, and many others. He is a staff writer for RowLoff Productions Publications and has written such iconic texts as "The Rudimental Cookbook", "Just Desserts", "Multiplicity", “First Solos & Duets”, and "The Orchemental Snare Collection" along with many ensembles and solos. He also has published materials with Maxwell Tree Music and Innovative Percussion Publishing. He is currently an endorser for RowLoff Productions, KHS America, Mapex Drums, Majestic Percussion, Innovative Percussion, Sabian Cymbals, D’Addario, Evans Drum Heads, Humes & Berg Cases and Bags, and Monkdrums. Mr. Freytag is an active member of the Percussive Arts Society (PAS), National Association for Music Educators (NAfME), Tennessee Music Educators Association (TMEA), Middle Tennessee School Band & Orchestra Association (MTSBOA), Tennessee Bandmasters Association (TBA), and Professional Educators of Tennessee (PET).
